Kamaksha Peetha Is A Symbol Of Faith And Creativity

The Kamaksha Temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali, is a significant religious site in Assam and a prominent attraction in Guwahati. Its unique bee-shaped architecture is a testament to the Assamese architectural style. This temple is considered one of the three most important Tantric Temples in India, and it holds great religious significance.

According to mythological legends, the Kamaksha Temple is associated with the "Yoni Peetha," a sacred place where the yoni or genitals of Devi Sati fell. This place is also known as the "Yoni Peetha" due to this association.

As per the "Kalika Purana," the Kamaksha Temple is where Devi Sati used to retire in secret to satisfy her amour with Lord Shiva. It was also the place where her yoni or womb fell after Shiva Tandav. The Divine Sites, which are part of the fragmented body of Goddess Sati, are mentioned as four primary Shakti Peethas, one of which is the Kamaksha Peetha.

Apart from the Kamaksha Peetha, other famous Shakti Peethas include the "Vimala Temple" within the Shree Jagannath Temple premises in Puri, Odisha, and the "Tara Tarini" Peetha near Brahmapur. According to legendry, the "Stana Khanda" or breasts of Goddess Sati fell over here. "Dakshina Kalika" in Kalighat, Kolkata, in the state of West Bengal, originated from the limbs of the Corpse of Mata Sati.

Indian saints have identified 108 places associated with the body of Goddess Sati as the famous Shakti Peethas. However, the "Devi Bhagwat" does not explicitly state this, and the "Yogini Tantra" also ignores this information. Nevertheless, the Kamaksha Peetha, known as the "Yoni Peetha," holds great religious significance for devotees, symbolizing faith and creativity. Its unique devotional style makes it a must-visit destination for devotees of Goddess Kali.
